چکیده

Inadequate end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) and resilience support still exists across the Internet as it is difficult to achieve cooperation between the Autonomous Systems (AS) that are operated independently by Internet Service Providers (ISP). The use of an Overlay Network (ON) deployed on top of the Internet is viewed as one of the effective strategies to provide some measure of service quality and requires little change to the existing operations of the wide-area Internet. An overlay network can be implemented with or without the network provider involvement. Currently, most research addresses network provider-dependent ONs. In this paper, we focus on analyzing and formulating the topological design problem in the context of a network-provider-independent overlay architecture named ROMCA (Resilient Overlay for Mission Critical Applications) based on previous work. Simulation results show that the overlay topology constructed exploiting underlying Internet path information can achieve good performance while maintaining low overhead.

Network Operator Independent Resilient Overlay for Mission Critical Applications

This paper proposes a Resilient Overlay for Mission Critical Applications (ROMCA); a novel operator-independent overlay architecture providing a resilient and reliable service across wide-area networks. Resilience is achieved by combining centralized topology construction control and distributed dynamic mapping of paths onto the overlay topology according to network conditions. ROMCA can mitiga...

Network-provider-independent overlays for resilience and quality of service

Overlay networks are viewed as one of the solutions addressing the inefficiency and slow evolution of the Internet and have been the subject of significant research. Most existing overlays providing resilience and/or Quality of Service (QoS) need cooperation among different network providers, but an inter-trust issue arises and cannot be easily solved. In this thesis, we mainly focus on network...

Minimal broker overlay design for content-based publish/subscribe systems

Mission-critical distributed applications, such as Internet advertising platforms, increasingly utilize distributed publish/subscribe systems as a messaging substrate for information dissemination. These applications require low latency performance from the substrate, as the timely delivery of messages can have a direct impact on revenue. The cost of managing and operating distributed publish/s...

Towards an end-to-end QoS Enabled Overlay Multicast Platform

Overlay networks are emerging as a platform to enhance the core network routing functionality. They form a new network layer on top of the Internet and offer a whole range of network enhancements, such as extra resilience, QoS (Quality of Service) support and overlay multicasting. This paper discusses how an overlay network is used to provide an end-toend QoS enabled multicast network. It descr...

Adapting the Overlay Network topology based on Traffic Matrix Estimation

The dynamic topology design is one of the important steps for the design of an overlay network. Traffic characteristic and volume, and behavior of nodes are the main issues that affect the performance of overlay networks, and have to be considered in designing a good topology. In this paper, we study the problem of designing the dynamic overlay topology based on estimating and predicting the Or...
